About Us ....

The first meeting of the Western District Historic Vehicle Club were held in March 1967, with 70 members joining by June 1967. Club meetings were held at the Royal Commonwealth Society in Corio Latrobe Terrace Geelong and other venues in latter years, including 14 years in the D.W. Hope Centre Nissan hut.

From 1990 the club room has been in the Geelong Showgrounds. It is a very comfortable carpeted hall, club vehicle photos on the walls, and with a library and items of club interest. With over 200 members, including ladies, it is a friendly environment and members are helpful with know-how. Some members may not have a vehicle as yet but have a keen interest and join in events.

Any vehicle of interest - preferably over 25 years old- may be on full registration or may be on ‘Permit To Use’ on a club rally (run) only, if over 25 years old. Cart, motor cycles, trucks, penny farthing and a bus are in the club, which is under the umbrella of Veteran, Vintage and Classic Car Clubs with 100 clubs participating.

The club is family oriented with rallies run at least twice a month, such as Observation, Economy, breakfast, picnic and bush BBQ (with bonfire!), very suitable for children to enjoy. Routes of rallies are often on roads that we may not be familiar with Destinations may be a few kilometres, or as far as interstate of several days. We display vehicles at community events and Aged Care Functions, and several exhibitions in aid of Rotary and Kiwanis.

There is an annual Swap Day at the Showgrounds in May with the oval and designated sheds being full, with buyers and sellers from all over Australia. The Western District Historic Vehicle Club has monthly General Meetings on the second Tuesday at the Geelong Showgrounds, generally with a guest speaker.
